About Us
Welcome to Waikamala, where healing meets tradition and ancestral connection. Our journey began with three friends, all indigenous Maori from New Zealand, united by a shared passion for Rongoa, or Maori plant medicine.
As we embarked on our spiritual and healing journey, the idea of creating a tea business emerged. Inspired by traditional healing practices from cultures around the world, we envisioned offering teas, tinctures, extracts, and elixirs made from plants with a rich history of healing various ailments.
While our initial trio dwindled to one, the journey continued, awakening a personal connection for me. My great grandmother, an Indian woman known for her resilience as a tea leaf picker in Bangel, faced immense hardship, ultimately parting with my grandfather and brother to ensure their care in an orphanage. Though her story remains shrouded in mystery, her legacy lives on in my journey into the world of teas.
Today, Waikamala stands as a testament to the resilience of our ancestors and the healing power of nature. Each plant we use carries with it a unique story, rooted in tradition and enriched by centuries of wisdom. Our mission is simple: to share the goodness of these plants with the world, fostering healing and connection along the way. Join us as we embark on this journey of ancestral discovery and wellness.
